How CivilEdge Delivers Onsite Training at Your Workplace
CivilEdge is able to deliver accredited traffic management and civil construction training onsite, at an organisation's own workplace and work sites, rather than in an external training room, if required. Councils, civil contractors and utilities providers book onsite training when they need a workforce trained and assessed around real rosters, real equipment and real work zones, without pulling staff off the job for days at a time.
What Is Onsite Traffic Management Training?
Onsite traffic management training is accredited classroom and practical training delivered at the location where the workforce actually operates, using the employer's own vehicles, signage and work zones wherever possible. It is delivered by CivilEdge trainers as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 41594), covering the same units of competency as our public courses, with the added flexibility of assessment options such as remote or blended assessment for larger or geographically spread teams.
Why Do Organisations Choose Onsite Training Over Off-Site Courses?
Because sending a whole workforce off site for training is expensive and disruptive, and it often trains people for tasks their role never actually requires. Onsite delivery for a whole workforce or team lets an organisation:
- Keep staff working locally. Training happens at or near the depot or work site, cutting travel time and time away from the job.
- Match training to the role. Not every worker needs the same course. Onsite delivery makes it practical to split a workforce into role specific training, such as Traffic Controller (TC) training for staff who carry out stop and slow duties, and Traffic Management Implementer (TMI) training for staff responsible for setting up and packing down a work zone.
- Reduce assessment costs. Practical assessments can be paired with remote or blended options, such as staff recording on the job tasks for review, cutting down on assessor travel across multiple sites.
- Roll out training in phases. Larger workforces can be trained in stages, prioritising staff whose certifications are closest to expiring, so the organisation stays compliant throughout the transition.
How Does CivilEdge Deliver Onsite Training for Organisations?
CivilEdge works with each organisation to map its workforce against the roles that actually require certification, then delivers classroom theory training, practical assessment and invigilated testing at the workplace. Where a role does not require a particular course or certification, such as staff whose duties fall outside traffic management or civil construction altogether, that role can be excluded from training entirely, avoiding unnecessary time and cost for the organisation.
What Results Have Organisations Achieved with Onsite Training from CivilEdge?
Yorke Peninsula Council is a strong example of what role specific onsite training can achieve. Responding to national changes introduced by Austroads to traffic management training standards, the council restructured its training from one broad course into three targeted courses covering six units of competency, delivered onsite in partnership with CivilEdge.
Staff whose duties did not require traffic management skills were removed from training altogether, while the remaining workforce was split between Traffic Controller (TC) training and Traffic Management Implementer (TMI) training, matched to what each role actually does on site. Practical assessment was streamlined further through remote video review, with staff recording on the job tasks for assessors rather than requiring travel to every work site, and the rollout was phased to prioritise staff with expiring certifications.
The result was recognised with the WHS (Work Health and Safety) Best Practice Regional Award from the Local Government Association Workers Compensation Scheme (LGAWCS).
“We wanted to do more than just meet compliance. This project ensures our people receive training that's relevant to their roles, without unnecessary time and cost burdens. It's a smarter way of working, and a safer one.”

What Standards Does CivilEdge's Onsite Training Meet?
CivilEdge is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 41594) delivering training aligned to Austroads' national traffic management standards, including the Australian Guide to Temporary Traffic Management (AGTTM). Whether training is delivered onsite or in a public course, the units of competency, assessment requirements and certification are the same, so organisations can verify CivilEdge's credentials as an approved provider before booking.
