What is a White Card?

A White Card (Construction Induction card - previously known as the Blue Card, Red Card or Green Card course depending on your state) is mandatory for anyone who works, or wants to work, in the construction industry.

It is a mandatory requirement for workers who want to carry out construction work on building and civil construction sites. This may include work in commercial or domestic construction, traffic control, painting, carpentry, brick laying, concreting, tiling, plumbing, electrical and other similar trades.

Why do I need a White Card?

Completing a White Card course increases your ability to acquire work in the construction industry. The course teaches the basic principles of occupational health and safety requirements on work sites. Holding a White Card may be the start of you finding employment in the construction industry and a wide range of career paths.

What Units are covered?

The White Card course covers the unit CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry. The White Card Course covers the topics required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills to work safely in the construction industry. It is a basic entry level course covering personal awareness, basic risk management, hazard identification and emergencies.

How is the course delivered?

This one-day course is usually delivered face-to-face in a classroom, however some states have approved for this to be completed online. Students who successfully complete the course will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment and White Card.

How do you pass the white card course?

In order to pass the white card test, you need to answer all of the questions correctly. But there is no need to stress because most people pass the first time around. If not, most organisations will offer a chance to re-sit the test.
